GPS not working in plane Empty GPS not working in plane

The global positioning system is supposed to be based on satellites in "space" sending down signals.

If this is the case you would reasonably expect a GPS (or satnav as they say in europe) to work in a plane right? even better since they are higher up!

Alas, it was not to be.

Brought my device on the plane today. worked fine with great reception, and then when we got up to about a mile high the signal just cut and wouldn't come back.

why is this important? Because GPS is not a satellite system, but rather a ground based system. And this is why it cut.

There is a hilarious forum topic on why it doesn't work in planes here. https://travel.stackexchange.com/questions/8861/do-you-have-a-gps-signal-on-board-of-a-plane

The guys keep saying it is to do with the thickness of the plane and so on. If this was so then it wouldn't work as soon as I got in it.

Anyway, another little anecdote to confirm the world we live in is full of lies.
